Playstation 3 Vs Xbox 360: Analyzing the Two Best Gaming Consoles
There have been lots of confusions whether Sony playstation 3 is better than Microsoft Xbox 360 or the other way round. Both consoles boast good indy support with games like Braid on XBLA and PixelJunk games on PSN. Both are available with big titles like Street Fighter HD and Mega Man. So, what are the differences between the two consoles?
CPU:
The CPU of Xbox 360 has vector processing power and a dot product instruction. The console also has three general purpose CPU cores and each core has 128 vector registers per hardware thread with a shared 1 MB L2 cache and a dot product instruction. The CPU of Sony Playstation 3 allows an environment where 87.5% work is DSP calculation and 12.5% work is general purpose computing.
GPU:
The GPU of Xbox 360 is more powerful than that of Sony playstation 3. The Xbox 360 GPU has larger number of transistors and the total programmable GFLOPs number is almost equal. In order to add additional floating point options for graphics rendering the PS3 has extra seven DSPs on the Cell. On the other hand the three general purpose cores of Xbox 360 with dot products instructions and custom D3D are tailored for true graphics related calculations.
Multithreading and balanced designs are other features of the Xbox360`s GPU. the automatic shader load balancing, full rate texture fetching in the vertex shader, programmable triangle tesselator, memory export features, programmable vertex fetching are the other features of the Xbox 360 that contribute to the rendering performance of the gadget.
Bandwidth:
For a total system bandwidth of 48 GB/s, the Playstation 3 has 25.6 GB/s of RDRAM bandwidth and 22.4 GB/s of GDDR3 bandwidth. On the other hand, for a 278.4 GB/s total system bandwidth the Xbox 360 has a 256 GB/s of EDRAM bandwidth and 22.4 GB/s of GDDR3 bandwidth. PS3 try to compensate the lack of memory by using Z and color compression.
Multimedia:
When it comes to multimedia, the major advantage of PS3 is that it can stream media and also allow the users to store media on it. In case of Xbox 360 it is like a media extender and does not allow you to save your AVI files on the hard drive. Again, PS3 is, till date, the only Blu-Ray playing video game console. It has high video quality, responsive controls and also it supports all the latest features.
Backwards Compatibility:
In case of backwards compatibility Xbox 360 excels PS3. The PS3 does not support any PS2 library as it does not have PS2 functionality. Alternatively, you can buy a used 20GB or 60GB if you want a backwards compatible PS2. This can be considered as one of the drawbacks of PS3. However, Microsoft has allowed backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 and the online library if the console is adding original XBOX games regularly.
Open Source Operating System:
Playstation3 is the only gaming console that allows the user to install Linux, it does not allow to play games while operating in Linux though. Microsoft is planning to upgrade Xbox 360 and working on a version of Linux that can be installed on the console.
PS3 simplifies the choice for import gamers and is a completely region free gaming console. Xbox 360 has superior graphic power and its GPU allows it to perform at high resolution. With Playstation 3, some of the games require mandatory installation to the hard drive, whereas with Xbox 360, you have the choice of installation.
Both the video game consoles have their own strengths and shortcomings, and both are tremendously successful.

Are You Missing The Truth About Repairing The Xbox 360 Yourself
The Xbox 360 is a great new game console that offers a lot of features. It’s also known for its problems. From the dreaded xbox 360 red ring repair (Red Ring of Death) to hard drive failures, overheating problems, and DVD drive issues, there are lots of reasons people are looking for Xbox 360 repair.
Of course, if your console isn’t still under warranty, this kind of service can get pretty expensive. That causes many people to wonder if it’s possible to repair an Xbox 360 yourself. In some cases you can, but it depends on the type of problem. Here are some of the most common issues an Xbox 360 might have, and the solutions.
DVD drive problems are common. If you hear a crunching noise when you place a disc into your Xbox 360, you’ll know you need to send in your console for a replacement drive. Storing your console horizontally, instead of vertically, may minimize the development of this problem.
One of the other most common reasons people look for Xbox 360 repair is actually overheating. This may be responsible for as much as sixty percent of repair jobs. However, this is easily prevented. Just keep your console in an area that’s cool and has good cross ventilation. That’ll prevent burnout of your components.
If you haven’t been able to do this, you’re probably going to be looking for an Xbox 360 red ring repair. Three red lights appear on the front of the console when a fatal hardware error occurs, often referred to as the Red Ring of Death. In many cases, these lights indicate that there is something severely, and permanently wrong with your console.
You may be able to repair your Xbox 360 yourself in these circumstances, however. Just remember that if you open the console, you’ll be voiding any warranties that may apply. If you’re still within the three year warranty for this problem (which affects up to a third of Xbox 360s), send your box back to Microsoft for repair.
If the warranty is up, your choices are more limited. You can talk to a third party company, and pay for the repair, or you can try to fix it yourself using a repair guide. Remember that if you do it yourself, there’s no guarantee it’ll work again. You should have experience with tinkering, as you’ll have to replace or reinstall the graphic processing unit.
Xbox 360 repair can be done on your own, but it’s better use the warranty if at all possible. Prevent problems when you can by storing your console in a well ventilated location and keeping it horizontal instead of vertical. If you take care of your Xbox 360, it’ll last a lot longer, and won’t need repair.

What’s the difference between an Xbox 360 Arcade and a normal 360 with a 20Gb memory apart from the memory?
I recently bought an Xbox 360 Arcade with Halo 3. I’ve gone over many websites trying to find differences between it and a normal 20Gb Xbox 360, or is that just it. If that is the case, then will it play Xbox original games if I buy a 20Gb memory for it? Any answers would be greatly received.

Investigating and Troubleshooting Xbox 360’s Red Ring of Death (rrod)
Have you ever concerned about the greatest fear one may have when using Xbox 360? Shoot your question to any Xbox 360 owner, you will experience receiving a stereotype answers. The terror might situate in the sight of a dreaded flashing red lights: Red Ring of Death (RRoD). Xbox 360 owners experience this cold blood run in their veins throughout its expiry. The Red Ring of death (lights) flashing on the front part of an Xbox 360 indicates a major trouble which makes the system go off the play.
The “Red Ring of Death” of an Xbox 360 system is unfortunately a bad sign, no matter how you will cut the cake. But there are certain issues that can be investigated and troubleshoot from the comfort of being present at home. The Xbox 360 front panel display is partitioned to four separate quadrants. Each quadrant of display turning red indicates a specific problem.
Before calling your service centre, you must make sure to switch off your Xbox 360 system and replace the cables to check. The supporter may remove your hard drive and may investigate to review your problem. As each quadrant is responsible for showing some sort of operational status, the Xbox 360’s Red Ring of Death make the lights in three of the quadrants glow. If all of the lights in Xbox 360 flash, then it represents some general hardware failure that has occurred in your Xbox 360. This may be repaired by reattaching the cables after switching it off. When you see the Red Ring of Death (RRoD) glowing in your second quadrant, it indicates the over usage of Xbox 360. This happens when the kit gets overheated. The only proposed troubleshooter tip is to switch it off and make it sit idle to be cooled down.
The Red Ring of Death (RRoD) of Xbox 360 glowing on the third quadrant is diagnosed as a severe hardware failure. Try reinstalling all the cords that move up and down to the Xbox 360, and check for pin alignment. But don’t screw yourself up with this problem, since this needs to be checked by a service centre if it doesn’t turn back after single reboot.
So, What if the Red Ring of Death (RRoD) present in all the four quadrants? This is easiest problem to fix than others in Xbox 360. This is a simple issue present within the AV cable for not being properly inserted to your Xbox 360. Check the back of the console and try replacing the cord until you hear a ‘click’ sound to ensure the lock of the AV cord.
